{OOTD} Festival Fringe

Hiya everyone ♡

Robyn (from Jessiebird Photography) and I had a great day on Wednesday, the public holiday. We stalked around Kloof to find good spots for some blog photos. This house is being renovated and the door has just been painted blue. We loved the door so we jumped out of the car and took a few shots. Awkwardly there were people in the house! It was really funny when a man came out the house to ask us what we were doing - he was cool with us shooting there once we complimented his new house - and when a family of four exited the house to get in their SUV!

Anyways, the life and times of a photographer and fashion blogger!

Please let me know what you think of the outfit in the comments

May Favourites ♡

Hiya everyone ♡

May has flown right by, it feels like just the other day I was filming Siobhan (from Sugar and Spice) and my April faves - you can watch the video here. I have a couple beauty and fashion faves for this month, plus a fave TV show and YouTuber. Enjoy the post and please let me know if you have tried any of these products in the comments - I love reading what you have to say!

Urban Studio Powder & Blush Brushes by Cala

I was chatting to Luzanne from Pink Peonies the other day, she told me that she saw some new makeup brushes at Dischem that looked stunning and were really reasonably priced. I saw that Urban Studio, which is made by Cala, had quite a few brushes in stock, but the pack of 4 really caught my eye! They have the softest taklon bristles, I just loooove them! The four-pack comes with powder, blush, foundation and concealer brushes and also a cute little mesh zipper pouch. The pack is only R250 so I say go grab them before they are sold out!

Clarins Light Lip Comfort Oil

My new obsession for bed time. I have been an avid Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant supporter for ages but I had just heard too many rave reviews of the lip oil to miss out. I got mine at Edgars for R280, you can aso buy it online from Red Square here. The active ingredients listed are hazelnut oil, organic jojoba oil and mirabelle oil. These ingredients help in nourishing, smoothing, fighting dehydration and plumping. I put it on every night before bed. I reserve it for before bed as to not run out too quickly, it has quite a hefty price tag but it's so worth it! I even had a bad dream the other night that I had run out!

Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Weenie

Sadly it's difficult to get Colourpop in South Africa, but if you want to place an order on their site, I would highly recommend Weenie! It is a pinky rose gold colour in a pearlized finish and only costs $5. I wore it the other night and got so many compliments, speaking of compliments, it really goes well with my blue eyes.

May Favourite 2016 || Jane Wonder

MAC Lipstick in Taupe

One of my fave nude lipsticks, I picked up Taupe at the MAC store in Gateway. It costs R220 and you can buy it online here. I bought it ages ago but have started whipping it out again since we're approaching winter. When I purchased it, we had hardly any nude lip options in South Africa.

I had searched all over the place and found some keepers from Catrice. I was really going for that Kylie Jenner nude and I read that she had a combo of Taupe and Spice lip pencil, so I grabbed them. Taupe is technically a matt shade, but I don't find it matt but instead a matt-satin finish. It isn't that long-lasting but at least it's not drying! I wanted to show a #nofilter lip photo to show you true colour, so after a really weird selfie-taking session, there are my lips in all their glory.

Birlin Sunglasses

I saw these beauties on an accidental shopping spree with my bestie, Karis. I have been so faithful to my rose gold aviators that I got at Primark, YDE, and Aldo (I managed to lose them TWICE), but I fell in love these immediately! I got them at YDE and I think they cost about R250. They also came in this cute flamingo soft bag. They are a very dusty pink shade and the hardwear on the arms are gold. I love this shape, so trendy right now!

May Favourites 2016 || Jane Wonder

Faux Suede Ankle Boots

I got these beauties at Mr Price a few weeks ago. They are a dark brown colour with a zip on the inside and tassles on the outside - very festival-vibe! They also have a pointed tip and a short block heel. They are so comfy and go perfectly with my boot/tights combo that I will be wearing all winter. They aren't on the Mr Price website now, so try grab them in-store as soon as possible!

Criminal Minds

My favourite, favourite show at the moment is Criminal Minds - if you watch my snaps (@camgildenhuys) then you would probably picked this up already. It's a show about FBI profilers, the Behavioral Analysis Unit, that solve serial crimes through their analysis of the crimal's psyche. Now, I am big into crime shows and books so this is right up my alley. If you're into CSI, James Patterson adn Michael Connely then this will definitely go down well. I am on season 6 (of 11) so I am binge watching for days. If you give it a go, please let me know what you think!

Roxxsaurus

I love YouTubers who aren't all tutorials. I like to see their favourites, some challenges and a little into them as a person. I also want to recommend someone who is relatively unknown and is from the UK, we can't get a lot of the products that US YouTubers recommend. Roxi is from Poland, but lives in England, and she's great at hack videos, lifestyle vids, and makeup and hair tutorials. Check out her channel here

{Editorial} GetIt Magazine Durban - May 2016

Hiya everyone ♡

The dream team come together again! Robyn approached me on doing another fashion feature for GetIt Magazine in Durban and (of course) I jumped at the chance. Robs wanted to focus on burgundy so I went on a mission to find some killer pieces, the colour is everywhere for winter!

Unfortunately Amber-Lea wasn't available for the shoot, but Chelsea Strachen stepped in to help with the makeup. we asked the gorgeous Candice Phippen, who I can proudly call one of my besties, to be our schmodel for the day. We had so much fun! Here's the first look from the shoot (there are 4 in total), you can see the magazine spread at the end of the post :)

My Current Faves from Catrice and Essence

Hiya everyone ♡

Catrice and Essence are two of my all time fave drugstore makeup brands. I am rather poor, to be blunt, so I try save high-end buys for 'must-haves'. Here are my current faves from Catrice and Essence...

Catrice High Glow Mineral Highlighting Powder in 010 Light Infusion - R89.95

Hooray! The first local, drugstore highlighter that I love! My fave highlighter which have a permanent position outside of my makeup drawers are from Sleek (UK), H&M (UK), and Benefit Watts Up (high end). I heard about the Catrice one through the blogosphere and knew I had to have it.

This highlighter is baked and is infused with minerals and fine light-reflecting pearls. I use a large eyeshadow brush (MAC 224SH Tapered Blending Brush) to apply it to the highest part of my cheekbones for a truly glowy look. Whilst it looks like it has a little undertone to it in the pan, when it is applied it gives off a modest silvery sparkle.

My rating: ★★★★★

Essence Sun Club Matt Bronzing Power - Lighter Skin - R67.50

Who doesn't like a bronzed goddess-like look? A tan makes everyone appear healthier and even slimmer. As I sit in an office all day I sadly lost the permanent tan I was blessed with in my outdoorsy youth. I feel as though I am constantly tending to my pale complexion, using three different self tanners on a regular basis.

I have used the Essence Sun Club Shimmer Bronzing Powder for years now, it's my fave shimmer bronzer! When I saw the (massive) matt one at the Essence counter at Dischem I thought "meh, let's give this one a try - matt is all the rage now anyways". I am so chuffed I did. I actually prefer wearing matt bronzers for everyday, and the large pan allows me to swoop a large powder brush over the pan and delicately across my face. I also love the embossed palm tree on the product.

My rating: ★★★★★

*Disclaimer: As I have always loved my Essence bronzers I have not tried a wide-range of alternate brands.

Catrice Prime and Fine Beautifying Primer - R79.95

Oh, how I love a good primer. I am typically a huge fan of silicone-based primers that fill in pores and provide a super-smooth canvas for my makeup (Inglot Under Makeup Base and Maybelline Baby Skin are my fave) - this one breaks that mould. This "beautifying" primer has a silky texture and can be worn on its own, pre-foundation application, or even added to foundation or BB/CC cream. I love that it has light-reflecting pearl pigments (I am sensing a trend here...) and it really does illuminate my complexion. The primer even claims to optically create and more even skin tone and gives a soft focus effect to your skin. Sounds to me like a Snapchat filter (follow me @camgildenhuys) ;)

I love the glowy affect and the price allows me to use it everyday with no budgetary stress.

Catrice Camouflage Cream in 025 Rosy Sand - R52.95

I have all different types of concealers; liquids, sticks, pens, pencils, and creams. I use them for different reasons and I have a range of shades. I have had a few nasty blemishes lately so I needed a concealer that was wasn't too sheer or 'fluid'. This cream concealer from Catrice (the first Catrice product I ever purchased) fit the bill to a T!

It says it is a "coverage cream with full coverage" and that is the perfect way to describe it. It's also waterproof when set. I have to admit, I feel very self-conscious about my acne scarring so I do wear a tiny amount of makeup (only concealer) to gym. The waterproof-ness is perfect for the high intensity of my workout, no sweat + concealer mess ;)
PS My trainer is very good looking

Essence Velvet Stick Matt Lip Colour in Peony Star - R38.95

My new fave lip colour! I am utterly obsessed with this nudey-mauve colour. I even included in my April faves on YouTube. I find matt lip products to be very drying, I think we can all attest to that, so I like that this one is "silky-matt". It's not drying and still gives off that matt look. It has a very soft texture and is super high coverage. One coat lasts for ages!

My rating: ★★★★★

Catrice Blush Artist Shading Palette in 020 CorAll I Need - R79.95

I have really been stepping up my blush game lately. I am trying to work up a better colour selection as I haven't bought much blush in ages. I love this trio from Catrice as I have three colours to choose from and its compact enough to throw in my gym makeup bag.

As the shade name suggests, we have some coral tones as well as some light berry tones. I really love the three colours and love that one is more matt (but not completely matt) to the two other shimmery ones (the middle shade is matt). My only gripe is that it is difficult to collect enough pigment
