• OOTD • Winter Gate

Hiya everyone ♡

We, very sadly, do not have an H&M in Durban yet. When I went to Joburg a few months ago I dropped a substantial amount on some awesome stuff at the H&M store in Sandton City - I was there for hours trying to decide on the few items to bring home. Something I loved seeing was all the H&M bags and Krispy Kreme boxes on the plane back to Durban!

I found this really cool, stripy, polo neck top. It's really warm and comfy and I love that it isn't made out of cheap polyester (which my skin reacts really badly to). I styled it with my skinny black jeans from MRP, with the obligatory 'knee tears' du jour, and my favourite new boots. I got them for a mere £10 at Primark in December, that's like R230!! I have linked similar products below for all of the items except the top, which seems to be rather 'one-of-a-kind' at this present moment.

I am looking for new style bloggers to follow, so please do my a favour and link your fave style bloggers in the comments :)

My current faves are: Viva Luxury, Atlantic Pacific, Frassy and In The Frow

• Travel • Wanderlust Tag

Jane Wonder || Travel • Wanderlust Tag

Hiya everyone

I am privileged enough to have done a lot of travel in my 29 1/2 years on this beautiful planet. My father, sister and I have lived in three different countries for the last 8 years or so, when we all get together in June (sister's birthday and father's day) or December (my birthday, Christmas, new years and dad's birthday) we like to try all meet in a different country - we love traveling!

I saw the Wanderlust Tag done on a few of my friends' blogs. I actually wrote this blog post a few months ago and lost the whole thing :(

1. Your most treasured passport stamp?

Oooh, it's hard to say. I think it would be my stamp entering Greece. It was a very special trip for my sister and I, just the two of us. We were running around London the last couple of days before the trip because we thought my sister wouldn't get her visa in time - we almost didn't get to go! Santorini is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. We had a wonderful week of relaxing, visiting different beaches, eating amazing food and seeing the most stunning sunsets.

2. Can you recite your passport # from memory if asked?

Depends if I am travelling in the near future ;) I can remember it when I am filling out a million visa forms, so if I am planning on travelling or travelling itself I do remember.

3. Preferred method of travel: planes, trains or automobiles?

Anything as long as I get enough leg room :) I am fortunate enough to be able to sleep any time or any place - put me in a moving vehicle and I am out! Planes are great as you get to go far at a fast pace, but I am not a fan of the harsh environment drying out my skin.

4. Top 3 travel items?

I have ones for the travel itself, and for while I am away...

For the travel:
• Avene Soothing Moisture Mask (available at Clicks). I smother myself in it before I go to sleep, it's a leave on mask so now mess after application
• Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream for my lips
• Hand/face wipes

For the trip:
• A great crossbody bag, ain't nobody got time for a bulky, heavy tote
• A denim shirt. Easy to carry around when it's hot, and warm enough when it's cool
• A powerbank in case your phone battery is dying

5. Hostel or hotel?

Hotel for sure! I am such a 'princess' when it comes to being comfy and gettign enough sleep.

6. Are you a repeat visitor or do you explore new places?

A bit of both. I have been to London about 7 times (but my sister does live there) and New York, Los Angeles and Mauritius twice. If I love a place then I would love to go there again, like Paris, Dublin or Santorini, but I do like to visit as many places as possible so not too many repeat visits ;)

PS. I have shopped on Oxford Street in London soooo many times that I wrote a post on the 7 Must-Visit Stores there.

7. Do you read up on your destination (culture, history, safety) or do you wing it?

I don't wing anything! TripAdvisor is my best friend (my profile with reviews can be found here) and I research the top few places I want to visit in the town or city - I still even do this when I go to London! My sister and I usually sit down and plan which days we visit which places, I am such a control freak and want to make everything out of my trip as possible.

8. Favorite travel website?

I wasn't one to really visit travel websites. I am always on TripAdvisor, as mentioned, and I just search "best things to do in..." on Google. In saying this, being asked this question inspired me to search for some cool travel websites to recommend. Here are the ones that have been recommended to me and that I deem good enough to recommend to you:
• Camps Bay Girl - by my friend Carlinn
• Minkys - by my friend Loren
• The Blonde Abroad
• The Travel Manuel
• Pass the Map
• Venturists
Finally, you have to check out Murad Osmann's Instagram feed - you may have heard about their #followme series

9. Where would you recommend a friend to visit? Name city & why.

Depends what they are going for!

• City and shopping - New York City and London
• Beach - Mussulo Island off Angola - squeeky clean sand, calm and warm ocean
• Snorkeling - Blue Bay, Mauritius
• Bush - Shishangeni Lodge near Kruger or the Serengeti and Ngorogoro Crater in Tanzania
• Affordable skiing holiday - Livigno, Italy - but it's the only place I have ever skiied
• Historical - Chateau de Versailles, France

10. You’re leaving tomorrow, money is no option, where are you going?

Oooh! Bali, Bora Bora, Peru for the Inca Trail, Japan, Tuscany, Venice and Athens in Italy, South of France in a chateau, Rwanda for gorilla trekking, Mexico, and Bodrum and Istanbul in Turkey.

5 Reasons Why I Don't Like Sales

It is a strange phenomenon to me why people, specifically ladies, love sales. Mid-season, end-of-season, last of a range, whatever. One of the most stressful shopping expeditions I have ever experienced was the June sale in River Island on Oxford Street a couple years ago. The scene was something out of a shopping horror movie and I was the star, running and screaming out of that store after 15 minutes!

{OOTD} Cold Shoulder

Hiya everyone

Here's another outfit shot from my day spent with Robyn (from Jessiebird Photography). I really wanted to wear this off the shoulder, stripey top from MRP. I could have gone with something simple, a pair of jeans or shorts but I wanted to play with the different lengths of the top and dungarees. I think it adds a little something special to the outfit. I like that the dungaree straps go over the sleeves of the top and I also like that there is a peek of skin showing between the crop of the top and the waist band of the dungarees.

Does this type of outfit appeal to you?

{Home} Workspace Inspiration and Tips

Workspace Inspiration and Tips || Jane Wonder

Hiya everyone

When I was searching for my (realistic) dream home when moving to Durban I knew I wanted a small room dedicated to my fashion and beauty passion. I now have a room where I house all of my makeup, skincare, haircare, day-to-day clothes (on a clothes rack to be displayed), boots, books, and where I work on my admin. I started on my search for great decor goodies whilst I was still living in Joburg - checking out cute off-the-grid homeware stores in Parkhurst, Clarens and Braamfontein. I have listed a few tips and tricks that I have picked up along the way. Please comment if you have any other suggestions! I love learning more from fab readers

Inspiration

You workspace should be somewhere where you enjoy being and derive inspiration. My workspace (which I wish to share in a blogpost soon) has a white and gold theme with a pop of greenery. Whenever I am out and about, at the mall or a market, I keep an eye out for pieces that I can add to my office. Adding an ornament, a beautiful greeting card or plant as I go along brings me great joy. My favourite way to add inspiration is through framing beautifully printed quotes!
PS. If you are also a blogger then decor goodies also serve as great props for photos ;)

Workspace Inspiration and Tips || Jane Wonder

Top tip: Create your own framed quotes by choosing a quote which speaks to your heart or makes you smile, downloading a beautiful font (my favourite free font websites are dafont and 1001 fonts), creating the design on a free Photoshop-type program like Pixlr (download the font, install, restart your computer and the font will be available on Pixlr) and getting it printed either at home or (if you want something fancier) at a printer. I am looking forward to getting a gold foiled print done soon!

Another top tip: Showcase your favourite beauty products as a form of decor. Some makeup has the most beautiful packaging - show off that hard earned money! You can get great acrylic makeup (or stationery) holders at places like Dischem, 27pinkx, The Beauty Box or Makeup Trays (by fellow blogger Hayls World).

Yet another top tip: I love floating shelves so much! They are such a nice, uncluttered way to showcase your decor. There are super affordable ones at MRP Home

Comfy chair

What a weird suggestion, you comment? Well, my office chair is hella uncomfortable and the space between my desk and top of my legs is too small which leads to me hunching over while I work. I suggest you get a comfy chair (a good investment) and maybe a beautiful cushion to add.
I have used the word ‘beautiful’ so many times in this post already…

Top tip: If your workspace is limited by size then get a ‘ghost’ chair to make sure you don't make the area look smaller.

Another top tip: Filter furniture by 'dining room chairs' when searching online, the office chairs are usually quite garish.

Beautiful stationery

You don’t want ugly stationery sticking out like a sore thumb on your beautiful desk! Do yourself a favour, go hit up your nearest Typo, (non-franchise) home store or an online store. They have some awesome stuff!

DIY

Don’t be scared to DIY! It may be a big hack to some, but there are some super easy ways to spruce up something boring. Check out A Beautiful Mess (one of my fave DIY blogs) for great tutorials. Since the theme in my office is white and gold, a bit of gold spray paint couldn’t hurt anyone. Just imagine a gold spray painted clipboard?

Greenery

There have been many articles I have read over the years that recommend surrounding yourself with living things in order to promote happiness; a plant, pet, etc. I have plenty of fake flowers all over my house for affordability reasons, but a few plants last for a long time when looked after! I have a few succulents and cacti around my home. Whenever I get the chance I also splash out and grab a bouquet of tulips (my favourite flower) to lift my spirits.

Great greenery options can be found here:

A lamp

It should go without saying that you need a great source of light when you’re working, especially at night. There are some great affordable lighting solutions out there for you that are fab to look at. I would also recommend getting as much natural light in the room as possible - soak in some vitamin D :)

Storage

Whilst I do recommend going paperless, sometimes hard copies are inevitable.
I am a bit of a neat freak when it comes to this kind of thing so I have plenty of files, boxes and drawers or shelves for my admin.
