• Wedding • Brittany & Scott Smith

Hiya everyone

This is the very first post I have done on a wedding. It has never been an area I wanted to post on in my blog, but I simply couldn't resist when I saw Britt and Scott's photos! Steph, a special friend of mine from varsity, was a bridesmaid at the wedding and is married to Scott's brother, so I reached out to her to see if she thought Britt would mind me sharing their photos and asking a few questions. Britt really came to the party answering my lengthy questions ;) I have included the Q & A in between the photos below, taken by the incredibly talented Vanilla Photography here in Durban.

Please let me know in the comments if you would like to see more of these types of posts on the blog. I really loved putting this post together and am feeling very inspired - even though I am nowhere close to traipsing down the aisle :D

Cam - Where did you get inspiration for your wedding? I love the colours and decor so much!

Britt - I love rich deep colours and as my wedding was in a good old Durbs winter I thought it would fit in so perfectly! I wanted to create a forest vibe in the reception, with the moss runners and deep maroons and burgundys.

Cam - Your venue was gorgeous. How long did it take you to find it? Was it stressful having the ceremony outside, or did the decision to have a winter wedding make you feel at ease?

Britt - As I am in the wedding industry, I see a wedding venue every weekend. So I went and looked at 2 venues that were new and that I hadnt seen before. When I saw the Venue Fontana I almost died and went to heaven! It is such a magical place and I knew it was the one. The hanging branches in the venue sold me! I was almost to relaxed as a bride, the weather didn't stress me out, I kept saying the weather is going to weather, as long as we have a plan B - which were bedouin tents. It was raining the day before and my dad who is 60 and has been surfing his whole life (he is basically a weather guru, as he is always chasing the waves) made the call the afternoon before that we don't need the tents.

Cam - I love your dress! I see your dress was from Shift - how many did you try on before or did you get it made? Was there thought into going traditional vs non- (non- in a sense you had a very unique dress with the beautiful feathers and wore Converse)?

Britt - I knew exactly what dress I wanted, I wanted something completely different! My mom has used Yolande Wortman from Shift many times, and I knew I wanted to go to her, her detail and fit are incredible! I didn't even go and try on any dresses! I just had faith in her that we could create my vision which she did! The dress was originally made with long sleeves which we ended up chopping off and adding the feathers which I am completely in love with. I wanted to have fun with my wedding and my dress, I am a bit wacky and different and I wanted my dress to be me and not the traditional norm! Yolande is a mind reader, she honestly took my vision from inside my head and turned it into reality!

Cam - I know you're a very talented make-up artist. Did Nixon do your makeup too or did you do your own?

Britt -I did NOT want to be doing my own makeup and hair on the day. For once I wanted to be in the chair being pampered. I work for Nixon and they are the most talented ladies in Durban so it was a very easy decision. Lindsay Nixon is so talented and my very good friend, so it was a given that she would do my make up and hair. She blew my marbles when I went for the trial! She is so AH-mazing and I absolutely adore her!

Cam - Your wedding party was rather large. How did you decide on all your bridesmaids and did they have a hand in terms of what colours and styles their dresses were?

Britt - So, I have 3 sisters and 4 bestest friends from my short life span. It was an easy decision! Why not have them ALL?! My husband had 8 groomsman - 2 of them where my brothers. So yes we were HUGE! Didn't want anyone to be left out. I basically got a colour palette of what colours I wanted and said there you go! Go and design or buy what you wish! All my bridesmaids are super trendy so I was super confident. I just wanted them to all feel bloody gorgeous! I got the gowns made by LoveTesi in Durban. The flower crowns where made by the lady who did all my flowers at the wedding - her name is Rowena from Buds in a Ro - she is bloody amazing!

Cam - How did you do meals?

Britt - We used Food by Andrew Draper - we had a harvest table for canapes and then we had it all plated for the reception. We used our cake for dessert and brownies that my aunt made (because she makes the most insane brownies). Sandra Taylor made our beautiful cake and it was amazing! It was so good that this cake that fed 100 people was gone before the reception started! haha

  3. The reception is held in the main hall. The wedding venues were gorgeous and perfect for a wedding. I have been to several weddings here but it hasn't gotten old. The place is absolutely beautiful and the views are breathtaking.
